IPDPS 2027 Call for Workshop Proposals

IPDPS 2027 invites two types of workshop proposals: renewal proposals and new workshop proposals!

ABOUT IPDPS WORKSHOPS

The workshops will be held during the first 1.5 days of the conference (all day Tuesday and Wednesday morning). IPDPS workshops provide an extended forum that allows the IPDPS community to fully explore special topics and present preliminary, cutting-edge, and practically oriented work that may not fit the mature research presented in the main symposium. Each workshop has its own requirements and submission schedule. Workshop paper submission dates fall after the notification date for the main symposium papers. Workshop proceedings are distributed at the conference and subsequently submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

IPDPS 2027 and all associated events, including workshops, are scheduled to be held in person from June 1–5, 2027, in Seattle, USA (Hyatt Regency Bellevue). For IPDPS 2027, we are holding all workshops during the first day and a half, i.e., all day Tuesday, June 1, and Wednesday morning, June 2, prior to the start of the main conference. This will provide ample opportunities for inter-workshop program coordination as well as industry forums.

Each workshop must be either a full day or a half day; no workshop can span the full 1.5 days. Full-day workshops will all be held on Tuesday, June 1, while half-day workshops may be scheduled on either Tuesday, June 1, or Wednesday morning, June 2, depending on room availability. The final determination of the workshop slot for accepted workshops will be made in consultation with the respective workshop organizers. Any preferences mentioned by the organizers will be duly considered alongside the timing of other planned co-located events on June 1 and 2, such as industry forums, tutorials, panels, birds-of-a-feather sessions, and other thematically related workshops. The goal is to honor organizers’ preferences while maximizing options for workshop attendees.

IPDPS 2027 CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR NEW WORKSHOPS

IPDPS 2027 invites new workshop proposals on all emerging topics relating to HPC, parallel and distributed computing, and their intersection with domain sciences. In particular, we invite proposals in areas such as HPC for large language models and foundational models, AI/ML for parallel and distributed computing, quantum computing, neuromorphic computing, energy-efficient HPC, cybersecurity, digital twins, and related areas. This significantly expands the scope of IPDPS workshops from prior years.

A strong proposal should emphasize the workshop's relevance to the IPDPS community and demonstrate the steps taken to ensure the technical quality of submissions and the peer-review process.

Required for all workshops:

• In-Person Format. Proposals should assume the workshop will be held as part of the in-person conference, and organizers should commit to attending in person.

• Peer Review. Each workshop must guarantee at least three peer reviews per paper and commit to using Linklings as a submission system. Other systems will not be permitted. To ensure high-quality workshops, we also request that organizers keep the share of papers authored by the organizing team to a minimum: no more than two for a full-day workshop and no more than one for a half-day workshop.

• Poster Session. Each workshop must take part in the single cross-workshop poster session for all workshop attendees and organizers, held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on June 1. Organizers can have their participants present their work as posters, provide one poster summarizing the workshop’s goals and main topics, or use a mix of both.

• Visa Letters: To reduce visa- and immigration-related delays, each workshop’s paper submission form must include a checkbox asking whether the author anticipates needing a visa letter to attend the conference (e.g., “If accepted, do you anticipate needing a visa letter to attend the conference?”). This must include a disclaimer that the information is not visible to reviewers and will not be used in any decision on the paper; it is collected purely to speed up the process. Workshop organizers will later receive information, in coordination with the Workshop Chairs, on how to pre-generate visa letters for authors and invited speakers who indicate this need. Anyone who receives a visa letter is expected to apply for their visa as soon as they receive it and be able to show proof of application. Remote accommodations will not be granted to people who delay applying for a visa in a timely manner. Workshop organizers should consult with the Workshop Chairs regarding any remote accommodations.

Recommended for all workshops:

• Panel Discussion. Proposals are invited to include a panel discussion (or other ways to foster discussion among participants) on the workshop’s core topics and the future of the workshop itself. Other ways to foster discussion are encouraged.

• Double Anonymous Review. Proposals are invited to consider double anonymity for their review process.

Proposals will be evaluated on factors including (but not limited to): importance of the proposed area; qualifications of the organizational team; commitment to diversity (geographical and organizational) and the potential to diversify attendees; commitment to required items (see above); and plans for publicity and outreach.

The ​Workshop participants can choose a registration that covers the first two days of the conference (June 1 and 2). Each full-day workshop receives one complimentary “workshops-only” registration for an invited speaker; half-day workshops do not, though their organizers may choose to cover the registration for an invited speaker’s presentation.

You may contact the Workshop Chairs before preparing a proposal to discuss your intent to submit and to get suggestions for improving it.

IPDPS 2027 PROPOSALS FOR NEW WORKSHOP

The proposals should consist of the following sections:

1. Description: The workshop's scope and topics, the organizers with confirmed chair(s), the program committee members (indicating whether they are confirmed), and important dates. A URL to the tentative workshop page must be included; proposals without a website containing the main information will be rejected.

2. Organizers: A short vita for each organizer, listing current affiliation, position, and any prior experience organizing workshops, conferences, or panels at IPDPS or similar venues. Provide contact information (name and email) for no more than three points of contact.

3. History: If you are re-running an event previously held elsewhere, list the workshop name, hosting conference, year, number of papers submitted, number of papers accepted, number of attendees, any posters and panels (including counts and, for panels, topics), and URLs of prior pages.

4. Targeted Papers and Audience: (i) where the papers will come from (government labs, universities, industry); (ii) the expected profile of participants (speakers and audience); (iii) how the workshop will be advertised. A clear target audience and engagement plan is critical for attracting high-quality submissions.

5. Format: Please indicate whether the workshop (i) will have peer-reviewed papers in the proceedings; (ii) will be half-day or full-day; (iii) will have a keynote (with tentative speakers); (iv) will have a panel (with topic and potential panelists); and (v) will have external (e.g., NSF) support for student participants. Each workshop must be either full-day or half-day; none can span the full 1.5 days. Full-day workshops are all held Tuesday, June 1; half-day workshops may fall on Tuesday, June 1, or Wednesday morning, June 2, depending on room availability. Organizers may indicate a preference. Registered workshop attendees have access to every workshop and to main conference events held on those days (e.g., panels, industry forums). Proposals should also address the peer-review and organizer-submission requirements above (at least three reviews per paper; limited organizer-authored papers).

6. Timeline: Provide a concise schedule from acceptance notification to the workshop day, indicating who is responsible for each activity and including milestones such as program chair appointment, website launch, call for papers, program committee invitations, submission deadline, and author notifications. For planning purposes, assume a tentative camera-ready deadline of March 6, 2027.

7. Registration and In-Person Requirement: The attendees, including organizers, must register. Registration details will appear on the IPDPS website closer to the conference. Each full-day workshop is eligible for one complimentary registration reserved for an invited speaker; half-day workshops are not eligible. The workshops are held in person, and proposals should commit to these requirements.

IPDPS 2027 PROPOSALS FOR WORKSHOP RENEWAL

IPDPS workshops from the preceding year should apply for renewal. Only workshops conducted as part of IPDPS 2026 will be considered for renewal; any workshop held prior to, but not part of, IPDPS 2026 will not be considered a renewal and should instead apply as a new workshop.

Renewal proposals should provide a detailed assessment of the past five years of the workshop, including 2026, with submission and acceptance statistics, identify what succeeded versus what needs significant improvement, and propose a plan to strengthen the program. Because the IPDPS 2027 workshop days differ from prior editions, renewal proposers should refer to the Format, Timeline, and Registration and in-person requirement sections above. In particular, renewal proposals must address the new requirements introduced there: the full-day/half-day scheduling (no 1.5-day workshops), at least three peer reviews per paper, limits on organizer-authored papers, the mandatory cross-workshop poster session, and the in-person and registration commitments.

Only renewal proposals that address these in detail and provide a credible plan for ensuring a high-quality program will be renewed; where there is redundancy across workshops, the workshop chairs may suggest consolidation across teams; renewal organizers should therefore be familiar with recent IPDPS workshops (available from the IPDPS conference archive webpage). WHAT/WHERE TO SUBMIT

The submission link for proposals is https://ssl.linklings.net/conferences/ipdps/ (select "Workshop Proposal" under the "Make a New Submission" tab). Proposals may not exceed three (3) single-spaced, double-column pages in 10-point font on 8.5x11 inch pages (IEEE conference style), including figures, tables, and references.

REVIEW AND NOTIFICATION

Proposals for both new and renewal requests will be reviewed by a workshops committee. The workshop chairs may contact the proposed organizers for any additional clarifications. The notifications are expected to be sent on October 12, 2026, so that workshop planning activities can begin right after.

TENTATIVE TIMELINE FOR IPDPS 2027

Dates below are tentative and derived from the IPDPS 2025 schedule shifted to 2027. Conference dates and venue are not yet finalized; planning notes place workshops on the Tuesday and Wednesday preceding the main program. Camera-ready and proposal deadlines should be confirmed with the General and Program Chairs once the venue contract is set. Per the official IPDPS 2027 site, the main-conference abstract and submission deadlines are October 1 and October 8, 2026, and workshops are to be announced in November 2026; the workshop proposal and notification dates below should be set to feed that announcement.
